  • Broken Capillaries

    Broken capillaries is a problem with the tiny blood vessels that become visible near the surface of the skin and usually appear as streaks or blotches. They are commonly known as spider veins because of their tree branch, or spider web-like, shape. Broken capillaries appear close to the skin surface and can be identified by their red or blue color.

    Apply a daily application in a 3% dilution in gentle, upward, almost superficial effleurage strokes should be used.  Work up the legs from the feet towards the heart. Vary the essential oils used form time to time.

  • Bruises

    Bruising is where the skin is not broken but underlying tissue is injured, resulting in pain, swelling and black and blue marks due to blood that has collected under the skin.

    Apply oil(s) in a carrier as soon as possible after bruising has occured, preferably in an ice-cold compress.

  • Chilblains

    Chilblains are reddish blue discolorations of the skin, accompanied by swelling, which affects parts of the body that are exposed to cold, particularly toes, fingers, and the backs of legs.  Children are particularly prone to chilblains on the feet in winter. 

    Massage the affected area with a carrier oil containing a 3% dilution of any of these oils.  This will help reduce pain and itching and help to disperse the chilblains.

  • Hypertension

    Hypertension is the clinical tem for high blood pressure.  The definition is blood pressure persistently elevated above 140mm Hg systolic and/or 90 mm Hg diastolic. 

    Inhalation is the best method.  Regular massage with a 3% diluation to a massage oil is effective as well.

  • Oedema

    Oedema is an excessive accumulation of fluid in tissue spaces.  It may be generalised or localised.

    With a 3% dilution massage the legs with long, upward strokes, always moving away from the ankle.

  • Palpitations

    Palpitations are referred to as an individual's awareness of the beating of the heart.  By definition it does not always imply "racing" of the heart but any sensation in the chest such as pounding, flopping, skipping, jumping, thumping or fluttering of the heart.

  • Varicose Veins

    Varicose veins are abnormally enlarged swollen veins that usually occur in the legs.  They are the result of weakness of the valves inside the veins that allow the blood to flow back to the heart.  If the valves do not work properly, blood accumulates in the veins, stretching them and causing varicosities.
